Welcome to Light Seekers of Key West. My name is Joyce Straiton and I create lampwork glass beads, also called flamework beads, from which I make original jewelry. So, you may ask, how does someone get lucky enough to be living their dream in paradise? It all started when I turned 40! I had been teaching Special Education, first in Tennessee and then in Virginia and doing my art only as a hobby. Ever so slowly I started realizing I was a grown-up (and not a very happy one) and that I could do whatever I wanted to.. My inner voice had been squelched so long that it took about two to three years to figure out what I wanted to do to make me truly happy. But after doing some reading, lots of journaling and even some good old fashioned crying, I figured it out. I wanted to make flamework beads for a living in Key West. So, that's how I managed to be living this wonderful life in this wonderful place!
